What it looks like
You describe the task in plain words. ChatGPT picks the tools, runs the steps on your PC and reports back.

Set up in a few minutes
No config files to edit. You need a Windows 10 or 11 PC.
Turn on Developer mode
In ChatGPT open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
Add Bridgerator
Open chatgpt.com/plugins, press + and choose Add custom MCP server. Name:
Bridgerator, the URL below, sign-in: OAuth. Tick “I understand and want to continue” and create the plugin.Sign in to Bridgerator
ChatGPT opens the Bridgerator sign-in page. Sign in with Google or e-mail — your account is created on the spot, free.
Connect your PC
On the PC paste one command (below) into PowerShell — no admin rights needed. A tab opens with a code: press “Connect this computer”.

Then start a new chat, turn on Bridgerator in the tools menu (+) and ask for something on your PC. ChatGPT's menus change from time to time: if a label differs, look for “Developer mode” and “Plugins” in Settings. Bridgerator also works in other AI apps — Claude, Codex, Cursor, VS Code.
ChatGPT and Bridgerator questions
Can ChatGPT open files on my computer?
Yes. With no folder list (the default) — in every folder, as with similar tools; only Bridgerator's own folders are always closed. With a list — only in those folders. ChatGPT changes the folder list at once; if you turn on “Ask before the AI changes settings” (Settings → This PC), widening waits for your Apply on the PC. Simple deletes go to the Recycle Bin, and “Undo AI changes” puts changed files back; sensitive folders (AppData, .ssh, Startup) can be closed with the “Protect sensitive folders” switch. ChatGPT asks before actions that change things (unless you allow them for the whole chat); you can also turn on confirmations on the PC (a Windows notification) for risky actions such as deletions and system commands.
Can ChatGPT run commands on my PC?
Yes, in PowerShell or cmd with your Windows user's rights. A built-in list of dangerous commands is a safety net (a filter on the first word of a command), not a security boundary; you can turn the terminal off entirely in disabledTools.
Which computers does it work with?
With Windows 10 and 11 PCs and laptops (x64 and ARM64). The installer puts the signed Bridgerator app for Windows on the PC — nothing else to install, no admin rights. You can connect several computers to one account.
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
Adding your own MCP server needs Developer mode: ChatGPT → Settings → Security and login. Whether you have it depends on your ChatGPT plan (Free usually doesn't have it): if the switch is missing, your plan doesn't include it. You can still connect Bridgerator for free to Claude or another AI app.
Will you store my files?
No. File contents and command output pass through the Bridgerator server in memory and go to ChatGPT as tool results; we don't save them. Details in the privacy policy.
